Mr. Aoun is a shareholder of Nuyen, Tomtishen and Aoun, P.C. and a business lawyer with over thirty years of experience advising clients in the insurance and health care industries.
While Mr. Aoun has served as counsel to a wide range of businesses, his practice has been focused in the areas of third party payment, insurance and managed care. He has significant experience in health care financing systems, including Medicare, Medicaid and Blue Cross, and he regularly provides advice and consultation to providers and health plans on payment and strategic issues in connection with these programs.
Mr. Aoun also provides advice concerning compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to health plans and insurance companies. This advice encompasses licensing, participation in government programs, and ongoing compliance issues. He also has assisted hospitals and managed care organizations in the development of alternative risk financing programs, such as captive insurance companies.
Joseph T. Aoun graduated magna cum laude from Wayne State University Law School in 1987 and is a member of the Order of the Coif. He has an undergraduate degree in finance and managerial economics from the University of Michigan (Dearborn), where he graduated with distinction in 1984. Upon law school graduation, Mr. Aoun joined Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, where he practiced until formation of Nuyen, Tomtishen and Aoun, P.C. in 2000. Mr. Aoun was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 1987 and the Florida Bar in 1992.
Mr. Aoun was featured in Crain's Detroit Business as one of the community's up and coming professionals (40 Under 40). In 2003, the University of Michigan (Dearborn) School of Management recognized Mr. Aoun as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Aoun has been named in The Best Lawyers in America in the specialty areas of health care law and insurance law. He has also been named to the recent edition in Michigan's Super Lawyers.
